We are currently looking for enthusiastic community members to support our museum’s collections, facilities, events, and more. We have large and small roles available; whether you have just a little or a lot of time to give, there is a position here for you. Volunteer contracts are flexible: your schedule can be adjusted to suit your personal availability. Whether you’re working in our garden, helping us plan our next exhibition, or putting up event posters in your community, we are happy to welcome you as part of the Kings County Museum team!

Collections Committee
Do you like researching, cataloguing, photographing, and working with historic objects? You might be a great fit for our Collections Committee. This committee helps make decisions about the museum’s collection, from accepting donations to helping process deaccessions. You’ll work with other history lovers to organize specific collections and help plan for safe and effective long term storage solutions.
Not sure if you have the skills to work with historic collections? We can set you up with projects you are comfortable with and provide training as needed.
Exhibits Committee
This committee helps to make our exhibits come to life! If you’re creative, handy, and a natural story-teller, this is a great volunteering position for you. From initial planning, to drafting interpretive panels, to installation and final touches, we love involving our volunteers in telling our community’s history.
Events and Fundraising Committee
Are you an expert organizer? A people person? Host or hostess extraordinaire? Then you should definitely be on our Events and Fundraising Committee! As an independently run, non-profit organization, we rely on community events and fundraisers to help fund the work that we do. We are always looking for people to help us plan and facilitate exhibition openings, talks, workshops, yard sales, concerts, holiday events and more.
Research & Genealogy Committee
In addition to being a community museum, we also host a genealogical research centre and archive where our knowledgeable staff and volunteers conduct research related to family history, local communities, and all things Kings County. If you’ve got great attention to detail and love tracking down answers to historical queries, we would love to have you join us as a volunteer researcher!
Facilities Committee
The Kings County Museum is located in a beautiful, historic building which served as Kentville’s courthouse from 1904 to 1978. If you’ve ever owned a historic property, then you’ll know they are a labour of love! The Facilities Committee is who we have to thank for taking care of our very special building. They assist with repairs, restoration projects, landscaping, facility improvements, and decision-making about all things related to the museum’s physical structure.
Visitor Services and Tour Guiding
If you love sharing your passion for history and community with others, we would love to have you on board as a tour guide or visitor services attendant. We are always looking for friendly faces to offer front-of-house coverage and to greet our guests. Not to mention, this is a great way to get to know your community better and make new friends!
Jack of All Trades
Want to do a bit of everything? Customize your volunteer experience! Maybe you love research and gardening, or baking and cataloguing. Tell us about your skills and interests, and we will help you find the right fit at the Kings County Museum.
