Archivist/Librarian Assistant
The Kings County Museum is seeking an Archivist/Librarian Assistant.
This position is partially funded by the Nova Scotia Summer Skills Incentive program and the successful applicant must be currently enrolled in a full-time university or community college program OR be a graduating Grade 12 student who is enrolled full-time in a university or college fall (2021) program. We are offering the successful applicant 14 weeks of employment working 35 hours per week from May 17th to August 20th. The summer schedule will include weekdays and some Saturdays.
Duties include:
Assisting with public genealogy and community history research requests.
Updating backlog of records for provincial museum collection record databases
Researching and processing local newspapers for historical reference.
Assisting with tours of
museum exhibits/genealogy/community collections as necessary.
Successful Candidate will:
Gain practical experience and training in historical research. The areas of
focus will be genealogy and community history.
Expand their knowledge and understanding of First Nations history and early
European and American settlement in Kings County.
Receive training and experience in museum interpretation.
Receive training and experience in provincial museum collection record
databases.
Work within a supportive and encouraging team environment with an enthusiastic
and professional staff.
The successful candidate will possess good writing, computer, and communication skills. Reading cursive writing is also an asset.
Your work desk will be in the lower level of our museum and the successful applicant will spend many hours under artificial (fluorescent) lighting. While we maintain good air quality standards there may be times when the air quality is impacted by outside heat and humidity factors.
12.95/hr 35 Hours a week
14 weeks.

Curatorial Assistant
The Kings County Museum is seeking a Curatorial Assistant to work in the museum under the direction of the Museum Curator.
This position is partially funded by the Nova Scotia Summer Skills Incentive program and the successful applicant must be currently enrolled in a full-time university or community college program OR be a graduating grade 12 student who is enrolled full-time in a university or college fall (2021) program. We are offering the successful applicant 14 weeks of employment working 35 hours per week from May 17th to August 20th. The summer schedule will include weekdays and some Saturdays.

Interpret exhibit and collection for visitors to the site. Assist curator with planning and implementation of exhibits. Assist curator with research and collection management projects

Receive training and experience in museum interpretation.
Receive training and experience in provincial museum collection record
databases.

The successful candidate will be able to: work independently, be attentive to detail, and possess strong research skills.
