Brush with Nature 2023 – Short Brush

he Kings County Museum is pleased to host its second Brush with Nature event – with new changes suggested by you, the artists.

Artists at any level are invited to register for Brush with Nature. It’s an opportunity to discover and then paint/sketch your favorite corners of King’s County. Artwork is to be done “en plein air”; that is, outdoors, on location, and in any medium (oils, acrylics, watercolour, pastels, inks, graphite, etc.).

Artists who register for Brush with Nature can, optionally, choose to participate in the Long Brush and/or the Artists’ Showcase (see information below)

Description

The Kings County Museum is pleased to host its second Brush with Nature event – with new changes suggested by you, the artists.

Artists at any level are invited to register for Brush with Nature. It’s an opportunity to discover and then paint/sketch your favorite corners of King’s County. Artwork is to be done “en plein air”; that is, outdoors, on location, and in any medium (oils, acrylics, watercolour, pastels, inks, graphite, etc.).

Artists who register for Brush with Nature can, optionally, choose to participate in the Long Brush and/or the Artists’ Showcase (see information below)

Part 1 Artists’ Showcase: August 4th – September 30th  
Participating artists will have the opportunity to showcase a maximum of two artworks at the Kings County Museum. These artworks are eligible for prizes in the “showcase category”

Artworks must be original works, painted en plein air, and painted within Kings County. Artists may submit works created in any year. All submissions must be delivered to the Kings County Museum by 4:00pm on July 28th and come “hang-ready”.

On August  4th at 7:00pm, we will officially open the Brush with Nature: Artists’ Showcase with a wine and cheese event. All artists (and members of the public) are invited to attend.

Judging will conclude at 7:30 pm and awards will be presented.

Part 2 Short Brush : 8:00 am – noon, Saturday 26th August 2022
Artists are to paint/sketch/etc. within the Town of KentvilleArtists may submit a maximum of two works.

Registration for the Short Brush  is from 8:00 am – 9:00 am at the Kings County Museum. All paper/canvas/boards/etc. must be reviewed by a Brush with Nature volunteer and stamped on the back.

Painting/sketching is from 9:00 am – 11:00 am. Artists have two hours to complete their en plein air artwork. Artists may pick a location within the Town of Kentville. Short Brush submissions should be brought to the Kings County Museum as soon as possible so our judge can view them. Short Brush submissions are to be displayed on easels for judging (we kindly ask that artists bring their own easel if possible).

Judging will conclude at 12:00 pm and awards will be presented.

Participants
We are limiting Artists’ Showcase participation to 30 individuals at this time.
We are limiting Short Brush participation to 30 individuals at this time.

Registration
Artist Showcase participants register online (or in person at the Kings County Museum) between May 23rd, 2023 –July 26th, 2023.

Short Brush artists may register online from May 23rd, 2023 – August 24th 2023 or in person 8:00 am – 9:00 on August 26th at the Kings County Museum.

Registration fees:
Single entry in the Artists’ Showcase (includes complementary entry in the Short Brush event): $30
Single entry in the Short Brush event: $20

Sales:
The Kings County Museum’s commission rate is 30%. Artists also have the choice to donate larger percentages of sales to the Kings County Museum. All revenues generated will help support the operations and activities of the Kings County Museum.
