Genealogical Research Assistant

The Genealogical Research Assistant supports researchers in the King County Museum’s Community and Family History Department (C&FH). The successful candidate will be responsible to help researchers complete genealogical research. The successful candidate will also be responsible to answer community history questions through email, phone, and in-person requests. The successful candidate will also be responsible to update C&FH records, which includes processing obituaries, updating community history binders, filing and processing reference donations, and uploading information to online databases.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES.

Genealogical Research

  • Help visitors complete family research
  • Complete research requests and communicate in a professional manner
  • Navigate and use C&FH resources
  • Help visitors navigate resources

Community Research

  • Answer requests
  • Research and compile information
  • Help visitors navigate resources

Administrative

  • File and shelve material
  • Process obituaries and add them to the appropriate databases
  • Add to and organize community family history binders

Our Artists

Marion Evelyn Bortolin

Marion Bortolin (1921-1999) was a landscape, portrait and still life artist who used both oil-based and acrylic paints. She focused on Canadian scenes, family, and familiar objects that portrayed a hidden story and beauty within the painting. Though Marion was born in Toronto, she lived primarily in Lachine, Quebec. Marion studied piano at McGill University and had a career in marketing, finance, and later banking. Painting was her passion – a gift that brought joy to others.

Su-Lien Hsu

Su-Lien Hsu was born in 1941 in Miaoli, Taiwan. In 1976, she received a diploma from the Art and Crafts Department of Pingtung Normal College. She was a member of several art associations and learned watercolour and Chinese ink painting under various Taiwanese artists.

After retiring from a career in elementary school teaching, Su-Lien started studying oil painting in 2001 and continued studying watercolour painting under various Taiwanese artists.  The themes of her works are mostly landscape and flowers. In 2006, Su-Lien received a New Artist Award at the 23rd Pingtung Fine Arts Association Exhibition, and won the gold medal at a local watercolour and sketching competition for senior citizens in 2011. She had two solo watercolour and oil painting exhibitions in 2012 and 2013, and joined many art exhibitions in southern Taiwan.

Su-Lien is currently lives in Pingtung, Taiwan.

Amanda Ricks

Amanda Ricks is a multi-faceted artist based in Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia. Her artistic endeavors span across many mediums, including glass art, acrylic paintings, mixed media works, and creative writing. In addition, Amanda is a registered Art Therapist and Drama Therapist. Amanda blends her creative and psychology backgrounds in her book “So I Married An Alligator”, a children’s style book made for an adult audience about narcissistic abuse.
