SUMMARY:Mi'Kmaq Basketry Workshop SOLD OUT!
DESCRIPTION:The Kentville Business Community and the Kings County Museum present—\nA one-day traditional basket weaving workshop with Frank Meuse of Bear River First Nations . The workshop participants will start their day with a smudging ceremony and sharing circle .The day will be spent weaving a small traditional Mi’kmaq ash basket . All materials will be provided. The day will end with a sharing circle before our farewells at 5PM.\nJune 21st is National Indigenous Peoples Day\, a celebration of Indigenous Peoples’ culture and heritage. This time was chosen because it corresponds to the summer solstice\, the longest day of the year\, and because for generations\, many Indigenous Peoples’ groups have celebrated their culture and heritage at this time of year.\nNational Indigenous Peoples Day is a wonderful opportunity to become better acquainted with the cultural diversity of all First Nations and for us particularly\, our Mi’kmaq community here in the Annapolis Valley.\nWe would like to focus on celebrating their significant contribution by offering the opportunity to learn the basics of the traditional skill of basket weaving.

SUMMARY:Canada 150 Exhibit
DESCRIPTION:If we could see beneath the forest floor\, we would see that all the trees\, the pine\, the birch\, maple and so on\, are holding hands\, regardless of species. We as people\, regardless of race\, must come together and hold hands and help each     other. We must listen to our Mother Earth. She is sending us a message. \n\n–Mi’kmaq Elder and Spiritual Leader\nChief Charlie Labrador\, 1932-2002 \n  \n \n“Canada 150 Exhibit” Explore an exhibit which doesn’t shy away from some controversial sides of Confederation including\, “To Join or Not to Join: The Maritime Voice Against Confederation\,” or explore what we cherish about being Canadian through the lens of local photographers as they document the travels of the Canada 150 Chair.  You can follow the travels of the tiny chair on Canada150chair.ca. The Mi’kmaq are First Nations People in Eastern Canada and in this exhibit we offer beautiful examples of their craft of basket making. In August the Heritage Trust  exhibit  “Witness to a New Nation” will be joining us . You are invited to our Canada 150 Exhibit open house on July 17th from 7pm until 8pm here at the museum\, 37 Cornwallis Street in  Kentville\, Nova Scotia \n

Pick a place\, building\, event that means something of importance to you\, and that others can relate to. Contact the Kings County Museum info@kingscountymuseum.ca to reserve your time with the Canada 150 Chair             Photograph the chair in that location and then send a copy of that image\, along with the date and location that it was taken to the Kings County Museum curator@kingscountymuseum.ca \nSelect images will be uploaded to the Canada150Chair.com location and shared with all Nova Scotians.  An exhibit of some of the images will be on display at the Kings County Museum in Kentville Nova Scotia www.kingscountymuseum.ca throughout the 2017 season.  The museum will create a calendar from some of the images so by submitting an image for the project it is with the understanding the Museum may use that image to help fund projects for the museum. \nIf you like our website please let others know about the project! \nCelebrate why we “Chairish” Canada \n View more photographs www.canada150chair.ca \nAurora Newspaper article (pages 8 and 9) \nNova News article \n  \n\n \n \n \n \n Fort Edward Bria Stokesbury Feb 23 2017\n \n \n \n \n \n Gaspereau Valley Paul Illsley Feb 19 2017\n \n \n \n \n \n Gaspereau Valley Vickie Marstons Feb 13 2017\n \n \n \n \n \n Martinique Beach Bria Stokesbury Feb 27 2017\n \n \n \n \n \n Middleton Cass Moon \n \n \n \n \n \n Middleton Karen-Anne Neate\n \n \n \n \n \n 14 Wing CFB Greenwood Karen-Anne Neate\n \n \n \n \n \n Greenwood Military Aviation Museum Karen-Anne Neate\n \n \n \n \n \n Lunenburg Neil Clarkson

SUMMARY:Soldiers Social
DESCRIPTION:Soldiers Social Promo \nOur major fundraiser of the year ! \nTake a step back in time while honouring our World War II veterans. \nA night of music\,dancing\, food and drink. \n  \nThis is a fundraiser in partnership with CentreStage Theatre and The Cornwallis Inn. To “set our stage” music will be provided by Rewind and the  local social dance group\, Dance Time will share the dance floor with you. We welcome back soloist\, (Sally Wilkie)  and dancer (think Carmen Miranda) who will fly in from Cuba especially to perform for us. There will be stories and perhaps a little gossip. \nWe have invited a local antique car club to have 1930’s and 40’s vehicles lined up outside in the parking lot. You will enter the building through the cars at the parking lot entrance making for the perfect photo opportunity. \nWe will have a buffet table with cake\, sandwiches and punch and cigarette girls will stroll the crowd selling candy cigarettes and cigars (and 50/50 tickets). \nThe Cornwallis Inn  ball room is the perfect venue. The period ambiance of the ball room and the age of the building is perfect for authenticity\, AND the elevator will allow our mobility challenged patrons to come and enjoy this community event of remembrance. \n
