DESCRIPTION:We are excited to announce that the exhibition “Forgotten Voices: Poor Farms in Kings County” will officially open at the Kings County Museum on Saturday\, June 13th! To mark the opening\, Kings County Museum curator\, Kaleigh Weickert\, will be giving a public talk about the history of poor farms in Nova Scotia as well as the research process behind her “poor farms” project funded by the Provincial Archives Development Program. After many hours spent rooting through archives\, sifting through historic documents\, and traveling to local historic sites\, “Forgotten Voices: Poor Farms in Kings County” is finally ready to open to the public. Kaleigh will also share some of the stories she has uncovered along the way. DESCRIPTION:Three for All is a dynamic ensemble featuring guitarists Scott Macmillan\, Daniel MacNeil\, and Emma Rush. The three musicians each contribute a different flavor to the ensemble: Macmillan is a renowned steel string player with roots in Celtic music and jazz\, MacNeil\, one of Canada’s most versatile guitarists\, specializes in world music traditions\, and Rush is a virtuosa classical guitarist. The ensemble skillfully blends the voices of their different guitars to create unique instrumental sound. In concert you’ll hear original works by Macmillan and MacNeil\, music from Spain and Latin America\, sounds from the jazz world\, and more. Isabel Morton\, and her extended family live in Upper Dyke Village. Her father is the Honorable John Elkanah Morton is the MLA\, and later the MLC\, for Cornwallis Township. Isabel wants to follow her own stars. Is that even possible? Is she able to succeed? \nThis is Carolyn Nicholson’s fourth novel. Carolyn lives in Halifax and continues to research her Nova Scotia roots\, in the company of her three sisters\, who are always happy to go with her on her research adventures. \nRefreshments and conversation will follow Carolyn’s talk as well as an opportunity to purchase Carolyn’s newest historical novel.

Public commemoration of the tragic and painful history and ongoing impacts of residential schools is a vital component of the reconciliation process.\n \nGather here with Carolyn Landry\, Lenley Melvin and Neenie Melvin as they lead us in a smudging ceremony\, 7 sacred teachings workshop and quiet conversation .\nDive deep into the heart of Indigenous wisdom with “The Seven Sacred Teachings with Carolyn Landry and Neenie Melvin. .\nCarolyn hails from NS and is a mother of three\, as well as a grandmother to eight. She is an entrepreneur\, cultural advisor\, and holds a Master’s Degree in Sociology from Acadia University. Despite her various roles and titles\, she does not allow them to define her identity. Her ultimate aspiration in life is to become the best person possible by following the Ancestral 7 Sacred Teachings.\nNeenie Melvin is sister to Carolyn and mother to Lenley Melvin.\nGather in conversation with Earth Keeper Lenley Melvin (Annapolis Valley First Nation/ The Confederacy of Mainland Mi’kmaq) . DESCRIPTION:An ‘All-Genre Write-In’ will be on Saturday\, October 24th\, from 1-4 pm at the Kings County Museum\, 37 Bridge Street\, Kentville\, Nova Scotia.\nRegistration is a $10.00 donation for a spot\, with the option of upgrading and supporting the Kings County Museum by obtaining a membership for an additional $10.00.Please register in advance by emailing info@kingscountymuseum.caThere are 20 spots available.\nDuring the event\, participants will find a spot at one of the tables that are set up for us within the museum to write for a few hours\, and then the group will gather at the end to share writing or to talk about the experience. We will also provide information about RWAC to non-members at that time.\nThis event’s aim is to promote Romance Writers of Atlantic Canada. They are a fun and interesting group that is open to increasing its membership. Also\, after recent political events\, their aim is to support our local arts and heritage community.\nOn an interesting note: the upstairs of the museum is the historic courtroom that appears in Laura Churchill Duke’s novel Two Crows Sorrow. This courtroom was the site of many famous legal dramas during the past century\, including bank robberies\, cattle-rustling\, and murder. SUMMARY:Annapolis Guitar Quartet
DESCRIPTION: \nAnnapolis Guitar Quartet\nThe German/Canadian Amadeus Guitar Duo (Kirchhoff-Kavanagh) and the Canadian Duo Cormier-Martin have known each other for many years after meeting at guitar and music festivals around the world. The love of programs with great diversity motivated the four musicians to create an evening with works for one\, two and four guitars. Works by Handel\, Bach and other baroque composers\, as well as classical and romantic music\, but also modern music dedicated to the duos by Dale Kavanagh and Carlo Domenico make up the Guitar Gala Night – a concert evening with virtuoso\, lyrical and expressive music full of temperament.The Amadeus Guitar Duo with Canadian guitarist Dale Kavanagh and Thomas Kirchhoff of Germany have been playing together since 1992. They performed more than 1.800 concerts in over 80 countries around the world and have produced 20 CDs (NAXOS Int.) – they are regarded as one of the best classical guitar duos of our time. The Canadian Cormier-Martin Duo have been playing together since 2010.
