SUMMARY:Canada 150 Chair Project
DESCRIPTION:To reserve your time with the 150 chair contact us info@kingscountymuseum.ca \nTo upload your photograph to our curator contact us curator@kingscountymuseum.ca \nCanada 150 Chair Project \nA Front Row Seat to Canadian History \nwww.Canada150Chair.com \nWe have asked local photographers to record the places that inspire them and include you in the picture because…. ♫ this chair is your chair\, this chair is my chair\, from 1867 until 2017 this chair was made for you and me♫.  Made by the hands of our ancestors it has supported Nova Scotians for 150 years and now it is time for this little chair to travel throughout the length and breadth of our beloved Province to take a front row seat in the places that we collectively cherish/chairish.  \nA chair with history! \nThis chair is believed to have been made by a local craftsman around the time of Confederation.  In 2016 it was rescued from the spring clean-up in Gaspereau\, Nova Scotia.  It was restored by Bill Zinck and Bill Naylor.  With the approach of Canada 150    Celebrations in 2017 Kings County Museum Curator Bria Stokesbury asked local artist Victoria Marston to transform this little chair into a contemporary symbol to commemorate this historic year in the life of our country.  Local photographers will be asked to create a visual celebration of the chair in locations of importance to them\, and all Nova Scotians.  The images will then be collected and shared on the Canada150Chair  website. \nWant to take part?  \nThe chair marks your spot! Pick a place\, building\, event that means something of importance to you\, and that others can relate to. Contact the Kings County Museum info@kingscountymuseum.ca to reserve your time with the Canada 150 Chair             Photograph the chair in that location and then send a copy of that image\, along with the date and location that it was taken to the Kings County Museum curator@kingscountymuseum.ca \nSelect images will be uploaded to the Canada150Chair.com location and shared with all Nova Scotians.  An exhibit of some of the images will be on display at the Kings County Museum in Kentville Nova Scotia www.kingscountymuseum.ca throughout the 2017 season.  The museum will create a calendar from some of the images so by submitting an image for the project it is with the understanding the Museum may use that image to help fund projects for the museum. \nIf you like our website please let others know about the project! \nCelebrate why we “Chairish” Canada \n View more photographs www.canada150chair.ca \nAurora Newspaper article (pages 8 and 9) \nNova News article \n  \n\n \n \n \n \n Fort Edward Bria Stokesbury Feb 23 2017\n \n \n \n \n \n Gaspereau Valley Paul Illsley Feb 19 2017\n \n \n \n \n \n Gaspereau Valley Vickie Marstons Feb 13 2017\n \n \n \n \n \n Martinique Beach Bria Stokesbury Feb 27 2017\n \n \n \n \n \n Middleton Cass Moon \n \n \n \n \n \n Middleton Karen-Anne Neate\n \n \n \n \n \n 14 Wing CFB Greenwood Karen-Anne Neate\n \n \n \n \n \n Greenwood Military Aviation Museum Karen-Anne Neate\n \n \n \n \n \n Lunenburg Neil Clarkson

SUMMARY:Mi'Kmaq Basketry Workshop SOLD OUT!
DESCRIPTION:The Kentville Business Community and the Kings County Museum present—\nA one-day traditional basket weaving workshop with Frank Meuse of Bear River First Nations . The workshop participants will start their day with a smudging ceremony and sharing circle .The day will be spent weaving a small traditional Mi’kmaq ash basket . All materials will be provided. The day will end with a sharing circle before our farewells at 5PM.\nJune 21st is National Indigenous Peoples Day\, a celebration of Indigenous Peoples’ culture and heritage. This time was chosen because it corresponds to the summer solstice\, the longest day of the year\, and because for generations\, many Indigenous Peoples’ groups have celebrated their culture and heritage at this time of year.\nNational Indigenous Peoples Day is a wonderful opportunity to become better acquainted with the cultural diversity of all First Nations and for us particularly\, our Mi’kmaq community here in the Annapolis Valley.\nWe would like to focus on celebrating their significant contribution by offering the opportunity to learn the basics of the traditional skill of basket weaving.

SUMMARY:Clary Croft in Concert
DESCRIPTION:Music in the Courtroom with Clary Croft \nPresented by Kings County Museum and Deep Roots Music Festival \n37 Cornwallis Street\, Kentville \n7PM \nTickets $20 available by phone 902-678-6237 BUY TICKETS HERE \nIt promises to be a magical night of music in the historic courtroom at the Kings Courthouse Museum when Clary Croft brings his beautiful tenor voice\, impeccable musicianship and deep knowledge of folklore to share. \nClary is cited in The Encyclopaedia of Music in Canada for his contribution to Maritime folklore and his ongoing research into the traditional music of the Maritime provinces. For twelve years he performed and researched regional folk songs and folklore at Nova Scotia’s Sherbrooke Village restoration site. \nA protégé and fellow folklorist of Nova Scotia’s Helen Creighton\, Clary published “Helen Creighton\, Canada’s First Lady of Folklore”\, an intimate biography of Helen in 1989.  Helen began to collect the folk songs and lore of Nova Scotia In 1928 and in 1987 Clary was responsible for cataloguing the Creighton Collection for the public Archives of Nova Scotia. \nHelen had quite a relationship with – albeit through correspondence- with another collector of songs whose roots are deep in Nova Scotia. Carrie Grover was born in 1879 near Sunken Lake into a musical family where she learned hundreds of songs and fiddle tunes. Later in life she had them transcribed and recorded at the Library of Congress where Creighton’s collection is housed as well. \nClary will perform traditional songs from the Creighton and Grover collections as well as songs from some of his favourite Maritime songwriters mixed with several of his own originals. \nWith a blend of story and song\, Clary offers an intimate evening of music and lore –  a celebration of life in the Maritimes.

SUMMARY:Book Launch: Remembrance Road
DESCRIPTION:Nova Scotian photographer Justine MacDonald’s poignant impressions from her 2001 and 2017 tours of western European battlefields are indelible reminders of the horror and utter futility of war. While they inform and memorialize\, they do not take sides. One cannot read this book and not be profoundly moved. MORE \nJustine’s website

SUMMARY:Jenny Osburn\, Healthy\, Nourishing \, Local Food!
DESCRIPTION:Join us as we welcome Jenny Osburn to our museum for an hour long chat followed by refreshments. Jenny Osburn found a passion for cooking very early in life. Learning at her mother’s side\, she learned to appreciate the delicious flavours of fresh food prepared from scratch and came to head up the kitchen in one of Nova Scotia’s most beloved restaurants. Named Select Nova Scotia’s Local Food Hero in 2010\, Jenny feels that aside from the obvious benefits of flavour and strengthening the economy\, buying local can change your life. From forging new connections with one’s community to a sense of celebration in the changing of the seasons\, she believes choosing local can lead to increased satisfaction and happiness. Although she sold the restaurant in 2016\, she is as committed to these ideas as ever. Currently Jenny is sharing her passion for fresh\, flavourful food with the Berwick School . Her Better School Food Annapolis Valley initiative can be followed HERE \nCheck out  Kieran O’Neils video on  School Food  WINNER 2018 : Nourish Nova Scotia Food and Devour  Film Challenge for Youth 2018\, presented by CBC
